“Maitland+20 - Fixing the Missing Link”
Overview
Twenty years after identifying the reality of the telecommunication divide, the ITU Maitland Commission's pioneering work is marked by publication of Maitland+20–Fixing the Missing Link – a collection of essays reflecting both on progress achieved since 1985, and on some of the challenges that remain.
The Maitland Commission published its landmark report The Missing Link in 1985. To mark the anniversary, a new collection of essays has been published – reflecting a very changed telecommunications environment. The book carries a message of enterprise and hope. But it also reflects the challenge that remains – of connecting the one billion people in the world who still have no access to basic telecom services.
Copies of Maitland+20–Fixing the Missing Link were presented to government, business and civil society delegations at the World Summit on the Information Society in Tunis (16-18 November) and at the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting in Malta (25-27 November).
